The Glucovet blood glucose monitoring system is designed to quantitatively measure the concentration of glucose in the blood in cats, dogs, rabbits, rats. It helps monitor the pet’s blood sugar levels.
Humans have a higher haematocrit level and bigger red blood cells than animals.
The distribution of glucose within human plasma is proportionally lower than in animal plasma, as a greater portion of the glucose is contained within the red blood cells.
Therefore, to obtain a more accurate result, the glucose meter must be designed specifically for animals.
HOW IT WORKS
The Glucovet test strip is equipped with an electrode that measures glucose levels. The glucose contained in the blood sample mixes with the reagent on the test strip, giving rise to a slight electric current.
The amount of current created depends on the amount of glucose in the blood.
The Glucovet measures the current generated and converts this measurement into the blood glucose level. The blood glucose result is displayed on the glucometer.
Simply bring the blood sample close to the tip of the Glucovet test strip; the test strip acts like a sponge and absorbs the blood in the reaction cell of the strip by capillary action.
When the cell is full, the glucose meter starts measuring the blood glucose level.
